Orphaned as an infant, Malkia knows early-on there’s something different about her. It isn’t just that she has strange green eyes and ebony skin, but her hits can crush sternums. Her jabs can break bones. And for this reason, Malkia stays to herself, suppressing her temper, living a mundane life in Jersey as a call center rep by day and a taekwondo teacher by night. But her life is forever changed in a split-second when one night out with friends goes horribly wrong, sending a slew of bullets zooming toward her chest. Malkia is then transported by a power so strong that it breaks the very ground beneath her, sending her swirling through a portal to a world called Nyumba.
It is here in this beautiful but dangerous land that Malkia learns the truth about who she is, learns about “the moyo” and finds out that the sins of a father, who she never knew, has now fallen on her shoulders. One powerful being, Soté, thirsty to be avenged, is demanding enslavement or war from Malkia and the Nyumbans. With time working against her, Malkia has only until the three moons align to be groomed for such a formidable enemy. Her only hope is that she is the chosen one the prophecy speaks of, because if the Nyumbans are wrong, Malkia, this land, and everyone who she loves will suffer from Sote’s wrath.
